The 208 Building has remained a timeless fixture of downtown Portland, Oregon since 1895. With this design intervention, we aim to preserve the building’s historic beauty while taking the opportunity to highlight a graceful contrast with contemporary design. The façade, which holds a historic easement, will be further exposed and refinished to restore its original nature and new glass and steel canopies will highlight entrances into two new elegant lobbies. Polished new ADA restrooms, showers, lockers and secure bike storage facilities will provide healthy, well-lit environments for building tenants and visitors. Additionally, a new seismic retrofit will ensure this historic asset remains sound for years to come.
